the sacred life of objects (2006)
Looking speaks to what things are. Seeing reveals what else things are. - Master Dogen (Loori)
Experience is nothing but image but in truth it is the Real. Whoever understands this has grasped the secrets of the path. - Ibn 'Arabi, Fusus al-hikam
This piece takes a closer look at the photographic image and how it is we perceive and interpret it. My intention was to take the act of looking at photographs and translate it to a sensory experience within a space, in turn influencing the involvement of the body as well as the mind. The project explores the complex nature of human perception by deconstructing photographs of small objects, creating an experience that is at times perplexing and confusing, and at times soothing and edifying.
